The story

Everyday Magic is for Kellie, my wife and best friend. She has a quiet strength that shows up for me, our kids, and the people she loves. These songs pay attention to the parts of her that a public description would miss: the way she laughs when plans go wrong, the sound of her moving through the house, the care she gives without announcing it, and the dreams she holds for a slower life together.

Kellie receives love most clearly through presence. That truth matters because my instinct often reaches toward songs, gifts, worry, and grand gestures. Her invitation asks me to stay beside her, notice what is happening, and share the ordinary work of our life.

She's Made of Little Things opens by gathering details. A long marriage is known through habits, expressions, preferences, and moments that would mean little to a stranger. The title song names the effect those details have on me. Kellie changes the feeling of ordinary time through who she is and how she participates in our family.

Slow Like That imagines a pace with enough room to notice each other. When She Dreams listens for the life Kellie wants beyond the list of tasks and the people who need her. The song makes space for quiet days, warm sand, and time together without another obligation waiting.

I'm the One Who Gets to Love Her places gratitude at the center of commitment. Marriage includes responsibility, though the song also recognizes privilege. I get to know this person across years, changes, private jokes, difficult seasons, and mornings that no one else sees.

I Hope You See It carries the meaning of SHMILY, our phrase for “See how much I love you.” The song admits that love is not always communicated in the form the other person receives most clearly. It asks whether all my attempts have added up to something Kellie is able to feel.

She's Made of Little Things returns as a reprise because the album ends where attention began. The repeated song feels different after the listener has heard about pace, dreams, gratitude, and presence. The details remain small. Their meaning has deepened through the life around them.

Everyday Magic belongs among the most personal albums in my catalog. Its usefulness reaches beyond one marriage because it asks a practical question. Do the people you love experience your attention, or do they mostly see the ways you intend to love them? The songs begin with Kellie and leave that question with every listener.

Where it leads

Everyday Magic stayed inside a marriage and paid attention to one beloved person. Released the next day, Fields of Simple Things widened that practice of attention toward kindness, doubt, silence, craft, and an ordinary life shaped by what rarely demands notice.
