The story

Live From My Head is a live album.

Kind of.

It’s the show I’ve played a thousand times in my imagination — the perfect night where the crowd gets it, the jokes land, the songs hit the way they’re supposed to, and nobody’s distracted or halfway out the door. It’s that version of a show musicians replay in their heads on the drive home… except I decided to actually make it.

This record lives in the space between what’s real and what’s imagined. It sounds like a live concert, it feels like a live concert, but it was built in pieces — alone in a studio, with stories, memories, and a lot of help from AI. Not to replace creativity, but to unlock it.

AI didn’t write my life for me.
It helped me tell it.

That’s the heart of this album.

The dream behind it

I wanted to capture the energy of a great night out — the laughter, the crowd moments, the little unscripted bits between songs — without pretending it actually happened that way. Because sometimes the truest version of a moment isn’t the literal one, it’s the one you felt.

Using AI let me build the show the way it exists in my head:

  • a full room
  • perfect timing
  • space to be funny, honest, and a little ridiculous
  • no pressure to rush past the meaningful parts

It’s live, but it’s also private.
Big crowd energy, built from small, personal moments.

What the songs are really about

On the surface, these songs are funny.
Underneath, they’re about connection.

They’re about:

  • lifelong friends who grew up together and somehow still find each other
  • family jokes that make no sense unless you’re in it
  • getting older and realizing the dumb stuff mattered
  • marriage, parenting, missing people, screwing things up, and trying again

Songs like “Don’t Be a Stranger” aren’t just about one group of friends — they’re about your people. The ones you don’t want to lose touch with. The ones you assume will always be there, until life reminds you to pay attention.

Even the goofiest tracks are grounded in real moments — because humor has always been how I process things, celebrate things, and survive things.

Why AI matters here, without the hype

AI isn’t the point of this album — the stories are.

But AI made it possible to:

  • experiment freely
  • build a live atmosphere without waiting for the “right” venue or moment
  • try ideas that would normally get left on a voice memo or notebook page
  • finish something instead of waiting for perfect conditions

It let me be playful.
It let me be honest.
It let me make the album I wanted to hear.

What I hope you take from it

If you listen to this record and laugh — great.
If you think about your friends, your family, or someone you haven’t called in a while — even better.

This album is a reminder that:

  • the little things are the big things
  • showing up matters
  • imagination counts
  • and sometimes the best nights are the ones you build for yourself

Thanks for being here — whether this feels live to you, imagined, or somewhere in between.

Either way…

You were there.

  1. 01Hot for My Pilates Instructor

The imagined set begins with a playful attraction song that establishes the album's willingness to turn private life into a public joke.

  2. 02Don't Be a Stranger

Humor steps aside long enough to recognize the friendships adulthood tests through distance, time, and neglected contact.

  3. 03Nobody Thanks the Goalie

Mike's own position becomes a clear account of responsibility, invisible prevention, and the mistake everyone remembers.

  4. 04My Therapist Drives a Tacoma

A specific comic premise makes therapy part of everyday life and shows how the album uses laughter to approach vulnerable subjects.

Track by track

  1. 01Spoken Intro: Live From My Head

Mike invites listeners into a concert assembled from imagination and makes the constructed format part of the story from the first voice.

  2. 02Hot for My Pilates Instructor

Attraction and self-awareness meet in a playful song whose personal target needs approval before the backstory becomes public.

  3. 03I'm Not Yelling, This Is Just How I Talk

A naturally forceful voice becomes a running defense, a source of misunderstanding, and an affectionate piece of self-recognition.

  4. 04All the Ways to Say Fuck You

Profanity changes meaning through tone and relationship, moving between anger, comedy, boundary, and the language of close friends.

  5. 05Perfect Blend

Different personalities and habits find a workable balance, giving the set a warmer relationship song after its opening jokes.

  6. 06Don't Be a Stranger

Old friends face the quiet distance created by adulthood and receive a direct request to keep the connection alive.

  7. 07I Was Listening, I Swear

Attention drifts while care remains, leaving the narrator to explain a gap other people experience as indifference.

  8. 08This Meeting Could've Been a Text

Workplace ritual meets blunt frustration as the song names the time and attention consumed by avoidable conversation.

  9. 09Nobody Thanks the Goalie

Success looks like nothing happened, while one missed save defines the night for everyone watching.

  10. 10If I Flip You Off, I Love You

A rude gesture becomes affectionate shorthand inside relationships built on history, trust, and a shared sense of humor.

  11. 11I Fucked Up Christmas

A holiday mistake collides with family expectations and leaves the narrator trying to repair more than a ruined plan.

  12. 12My Therapist Drives a Tacoma

Therapy receives an ordinary, memorable setting that allows vulnerability to enter the show without a solemn announcement.

  13. 13Still Fucking Around

Getting older has not ended the jokes, the friendships, or the impulse to play, even as everyone understands more of what time costs.

  14. 14Spoken Outro: Live From My Head

The imagined crowd fades while Mike explains why building the show mattered and leaves the listener included in the night.

Where it leads

Live From My Head turned private experience into an imagined public performance. The next record, The Noise Between Heartbeats, moved beneath the jokes toward anxiety, mental pressure, and the physical sensation of a mind that will not fully settle.
