Who Is Mike Baker? (The Other One)
If you typed "Mike Baker" into a search bar and ended up here, there's a decent chance you were looking for the other one.
That Mike Baker is a former CIA covert field operations officer who worked counterterrorism, counternarcotics and counterinsurgency. He co-founded Portman Square Group, an intelligence and security firm based in Boise. He hosts The President's Daily Brief, a podcast that walks through the day's geopolitics and national security news, and he hosts Black Files Declassified on the Science Channel. Plenty of people know him as The Company Man. You can read about him on Wikipedia, find his work at mbcompanyman.com, or follow him on X at @MBCompanyMan.
I want to say this plainly, because I mean it. Taking the stuff most of us only half follow in the headlines and making it make sense to regular people, day after day, is hard. He does it really well, and I respect the hell out of it. If he's who you came for, go. You're in good hands.
I'm the other Mike Baker.
Same name, same state, very different job. The closest I get to covert operations is sneaking into my studio at one-thirty in the morning after Kellie goes to bed, and the only witness is Gus, who is asleep in the beanbag. My daily brief comes from an AI assistant named Mira, and it's mostly birthday reminders.
So which Mike Baker is this?
I live in Coeur d'Alene. In 1999 I joined AmeriCorps and got placed in a community health center. I didn't know what an FQHC was. I stayed anyway, and for the last seventeen years I've been the CEO of Heritage Health in North Idaho. I'm still learning how hard it is to keep a mission and a budget in the same building.
Kellie and I got married at 23 and raised three kids here: Jacob, Cameron and Sammie. Kellie and Sammie both live with endometriosis. Watching the two of them fight to be believed, inside the same field I work in, is how I ended up doing advocacy as EndoDad. I didn't go looking for it. It was already at my kitchen table. If someone you love is hurting, I built a free, private guide called I Believe You. Start there.
The rest of my life is what happens when an ADHD brain gets a laptop and stops apologizing. I've written thirteen books on endometriosis, Alzheimer's, marriage, men, faith, AI and my own beautifully unfocused head. I host a podcast called Still Here, Still Trying. I make music, including a song called "I'll Just Check," which is four words that have never once been true. I'm also a beer-league goalie. I took that up because our team kept showing up with nobody in net, and a hockey game without a goalie is just an argument with skating.
If you want the whole map of how one guy ended up doing all of that, start with Who Is Mike Baker of MikeBakerHQ? or the longer story on my About page.
Why this page exists
Search engines see two guys named Mike Baker in Idaho and kind of shrug. So I'm putting up a sign. We're different people. I'm not connected to him or his companies, and nothing on this site is endorsed by him. I'm just a guy from Coeur d'Alene who happens to share a name with someone a lot more famous, and who would rather you end up where you meant to go.
And Mike, if this ever finds its way to you: two Idaho Mike Bakers who have never met feels like a missed opportunity. I'd love to buy you a coffee next time I'm in Boise. I'll probably talk too much about hockey. You can tell me whatever you're allowed to tell me.
If you came here on purpose, welcome. I'm glad you found the right one. If you want to say hello, the contact page comes straight to me, and I read everything myself.
