The art
Portraits of women who spent years being told nothing was wrong. Most of it comes out of the endometriosis work at home, and most of it is trying to say one thing: I hear you, and you deserve better.
The tools are new. The voice is still mine.
The show
No Permission Needed
This series isn’t mine to own. The power in these portraits belongs to the women who live it. My job was to witness it, and to make sure what they carry can’t be ignored.
I’m a man. That matters here. I haven’t lived what women live. But I’ve seen it — in my wife and my daughter, who both live with endometriosis, and in the stories women have trusted me with through the advocacy work.
The show ran at The Art Spirit Gallery in February 2026.
The short answer
Where the work comes from
Most of this starts at my kitchen table, not in a studio.
My wife and my daughter both live with endometriosis. I watched them fight for care that should have been simple, and face a system that treats their pain like a debate. That is the argument underneath almost everything here.
Through the advocacy work as EndoDad, women started trusting me with their own stories — being dismissed in care, chronic pain, the quiet exhaustion of being strong for too long. I’ve tried to answer those in songs, in books, and now in pictures. They’re all the same attempt.
These sit alongside Believe Her the First Time and the rest of the advocacy. Same subject, different instrument.
Where it’s been
The work has traveled further than this site has said
Norway, back in 2024. A show in New York. The Art Spirit Gallery here in Coeur d’Alene. A few others besides. Most of it went out alongside the endometriosis work rather than through galleries, which is probably why I never got around to writing it down.

No Permission Needed
40 works
Forty portraits about women not needing anyone's approval to exist, lead, or be heard. Every one has my own writing behind it.
The Body Remembers
40 works
The wider thread that runs through the endometriosis work — the same argument as Believe Her the First Time, in pictures.
She Who Burns
21 works
A series I kept coming back to. Same figure, same fire, worked over and over until it said what I meant.
Mythic Origins
98 works
Angels and one tree. Angel of the Valley, Angel of Resilience, Angel of Solitude — and the same tree painted again and again. I kept coming back to both because they kept not being finished.
Human Presence
22 works
Women drawn in the visual language of comic books — capes, stances, insignia. The posture usually reserved for people who rescue everyone else.
